Shining a Light on the Hidden Epidemic: Tackling Gender-Based Violence in Everyday Life

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) is not just an issue of extreme cases that make headlines—it’s a global epidemic, embedded in our everyday lives and often so subtle it goes unnoticed. While extreme violence grabs public attention, GBV’s subtler forms are normalized by societal standards, making them harder to identify but no less harmful. Recognizing these patterns early is essential to prevent escalation into the tragic worst-case scenarios that we are all too familiar with.

Project EQUAL: A Collaborative Initiative for Change

To address this pervasive issue, we partnered with ANCE and Mehrjon, two dedicated NGOs, to develop and design the Project ID of Project EQUAL. This ambitious project, running from 2023 to 2025, is co-funded by the European Union and focuses on raising awareness in Uzbekistan about the subtle yet significant presence of GBV in society.

Why Project EQUAL Matters

The project aims to sensitize local communities to GBV, helping individuals recognize and act against its simplest forms before they escalate. By highlighting the societal structures that allow GBV to persist, Project EQUAL seeks to empower individuals and foster a culture of awareness, respect, and proactive intervention.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to tackling the invisible chains of GBV and creating a safer, more inclusive society where equality is not just an ideal but a lived reality.

The logo: A Universal Symbol for Equality

We sought to convey the message of equality in a way that transcends cultural, educational, and personal biases, creating a visual language that speaks to everyone. To achieve this, we merged the powerful equal sign “=” with the universally recognized female gender symbol “♀”. This fusion not only symbolizes gender equality but also serves as a striking and inclusive emblem that resonates with diverse audiences worldwide.

The color palette: A Celebration of Female Empowerment

To honor female empowerment worldwide and reflect the vibrant cultural heritage of Uzbekistan, we selected a bright and celebratory color palette inspired by the traditional hues found across the region. This colorful approach embodies the campaign’s spirit of positivity and inclusivity, amplifying its message of equality and hope.
