Shatter Sport Stereotypes: A New Chapter with Project POWER

If you've been wondering about our radio silence since our last post end of December 2024, we assure you—it wasn’t due to a lack of activity! Quite the opposite, in fact. The start of 2025 has been a whirlwind of project proposals, strategic planning, and communications, as several new projects have begun to materialize. And now, we’re thrilled to break the silence by announcing one of our most exciting new endeavors: Project POWER.

Introducing Project POWER: Redefining Women’s Representation in Sports Media

Funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, Project POWER is a groundbreaking initiative dedicated to challenging gender bias in sports media. The project brings together an international consortium of organizations committed to fostering gender equality in the sporting world:

  • Athens Network of Collaborating Experts (ANCE) (Greece)

  • MUNDUS BULGARIA (Bulgaria)

  • Unió de Federacions Esportives de Catalunya (UFEC) (Spain)

  • Budapest Association for International Sports (BAIS) (Hungary)

  • Sport for Evolution Alliance (SEA) (Portugal)

  • Istituto Italiano dei Media (Isidem) (Italy)

Together, this coalition will work to dismantle stereotypes, promote ethical journalism, and reshape media narratives in sports to ensure that women athletes receive fair, accurate, and empowering representation.

Why Project POWER? The Urgent Need for Change

The influence of media in shaping public perception cannot be overstated. In sports, gender biases in coverage often reinforce harmful stereotypes, sidelining women’s achievements while overemphasizing appearance, emotions, or personal lives rather than athletic performance.

Project POWER is designed to challenge these discriminatory norms by advocating for more ethical, unbiased representation of female athletes. Through this initiative, we aim to:

  1. Break Down Harmful Stereotypes: Ensure that women in sports are recognized for their skill, resilience, and achievements, not just their appearance or personal lives.

  2. Provide Role Models for Women and Girls: Inspire future generations by ensuring strong female representation in sports media.

  3. Combat Discrimination in Sports Media: Promote journalistic integrity and hold media organizations accountable for biased narratives.

  4. Increase Investment and Sponsorships: Drive greater financial support for female athletes by elevating their visibility and impact.

The goal is clear: create a sports culture where women athletes are celebrated, not sidelined.

Driving Change Through the POWER Awareness-Raising Campaign

A key component of Project POWER is its Awareness-Raising Campaign, designed to educate, engage, and mobilize audiences on the issue of gender bias in sports media. And we are thrilled to share that we have been entrusted with leading the strategy behind it.

Our role in the campaign is comprehensive, covering every major aspect of its planning, design, and execution. Here’s what we’ve been tasked with:

  • Crafting the Awareness-Raising Strategy: We developed a detailed roadmap outlining the structure, goals, and key activation points for the campaign.

  • Defining the Primary & Secondary Messages: Messaging is the heart of any successful awareness campaign. We created clear, compelling narratives that challenge gender biases, encourage representation, and inspire audiences to take action.

  • Building the Key Content Categories: To ensure effective storytelling, we structured the campaign into strategic content categories, each with a clear outline and objectives, ensuring a consistent and powerful message across platforms.

  • Designing the Social Media Templates: A strong visual identity is essential for audience engagement. We created custom templates for all content categories, ensuring a cohesive, professional, and eye-catching look across all campaign materials.

  • Providing Guidelines for Execution: Awareness campaigns need more than just good content—they need to be run effectively. We developed detailed guidelines on how to manage and execute the campaign efficiently, maximizing engagement, reach, and impact.

But here’s the most exciting part—we’ve also been tasked with generating a key piece of content that will play a pivotal role in the campaign. What is it? Well, we’re keeping that under wraps for now, but trust us, it’s going to be a big reveal when the time comes!
