Amyklaion
A remarkable interdisciplinary project aimed at reviving a forgotten archaeological wonder of Ancient Greece, nestled in a small village just outside Sparta.
Amyclae (Ancient Greek: Ἀμύκλαι), once a prominent city during the Greek Heroic Age, holds a special place in ancient history. Mentioned by Homer, it stood as an independent Achaean town before falling to the Lacedaemonians, ultimately fading into obscurity. Its legacy includes the Hyacinthia festival, the temple, and the colossal statue of Apollo Amyclaeus, yet the city itself became synonymous with silence, immortalized in the saying, “quieter than Amyclae itself.”
Dormant for millennia, Amyclae’s story was rekindled in 2013 through a national-level branding project led by Prof. Angelos Delivorias, then Director of the Benaki Museum. The project aimed to:
Uncover its archaeological treasures through extensive digs and publish scientific findings.
Generate awareness and attract visitors to enhance the site’s long-term viability and promote further research.
“Camera Restora – History Projected”
We developed the concept “Camera Restora – History Projected” and, in collaboration with hom.a architecture, created physical constructions to bring Amyclae back to life. Using strategic placements at key points on the site, we projected 3D renderings of its key structures, offering visitors an immersive experience of the temple and its stunning architectural beauty.
This cutting-edge approach transformed guided tours into a living journey through history, highlighting the sanctuary’s significance while bridging the gap between past and present. It was an interdisciplinary revival of a forgotten wonder, blending archaeology, storytelling, and modern technology to preserve and promote Amyclae’s legacy for generations to come.
Revive the wonder.
Relive the mystery.
