Black Boxes Online
We consulted and supported the transformation of Danae Stratou’s modern art project into a dynamic platform that captures and represents the world’s fears and values.
An artist’s perspective on the permacrisis.
Danae Stratou, a renowned Greek installation artist, is known for her iconic modern art pieces created across the globe. Her project “Open the Black Boxes”, in collaboration with the non-profit organization Vital Space, addresses the global permacrisis—the interconnected economic, social, political, and environmental crises of recent decades. This project represents the artist's perspective and response to these pressing issues.
We worked closely with Danae to transform this powerful art project into a digital platform accessible to a global audience. By enabling the virtual "opening" of boxes at different times and locations worldwide, we extended the project's reach, aligning with Danae's commitment as a dedicated internationalist.
The project was inaugurated in Athens in April 2012 and evolved into its current form by 2016-2017. Today, “Open the Black Boxes” remains active and accessible, continuing to invite global participation and reflection.
